By a systemic approach in coaching we see the client as a part of a system. The most crucial system is for most of us the family. Therefore, it can be highly useful to examine jointly the family and its constituting elements., their relationships, and communication.
Accordingly, a visual overview is the best approach to get the awareness of the system. It might even be required, especially at the begin of a coaching.
How to work
- Download the family tree, print it out or use the pdf with tablet and pencil
- Fill it out according to your knowledge. Pay attention to do it with the real, i.e. objective, relations and not your (perceived) truth. That means, in here the biological connections count, not the emotional ones. If for example you have a stepfather, whom you see as your dad, write nevertheless your biological father in. You can add the stepfather on the side.
- Write the dates of birth, death, and marriage down, too!
- Add any siblings, second or third marriages etc.
- If you don’t certain names and dates or other, try to find it out. You can see this occasion as an opportunity to link up with your family. Often you can be stunned, how our ancestors will react positively to your interest.
